Alexakis Vidiano Orange

  • White
  • Vidiano (100%)

Vinification & Aging

Low intervention winemaking with a total SO2 addition of less than 40 mg/L. Fermentation starts in old oak barrels and finishes in cement tanks. Skin contact lasted for one month. Skins and sediments were removed with gentle racking. Barely any fining and filtration performed.

Ecosystems

The Vidiano grapes are sourced from selected dry-farmed vines in the limestone-rich vineyards of Aghios Thomas region of Heraklion at around 600m elevation. Sometimes irrigation is practised during the hottest days to reduce the otherwise severe water stress for the vines. Average yields for these parcels are 1/ha, and vines are 15-17 years old. Hand harvest to ensure premium quality grapes.

Tasting Notes

The wine dares to go off the beaten path, with a bright golden colour and novel savoury aromatics of sage, pear, earth and undergrowth. Round body with elegant light tannins and a finish with citrusy and marzipan notes. Alexakis Vidiano Orange is a powerful wine and can benefit from gentle decanting for approximately 30 minutes to bright out its full potential.
